Interactive Federal BOP Resource

Federal BOP Classification & Time-Credit Estimator

Estimate the security and custody factors the Bureau of Prisons may consider, then review possible First Step Act credits, Second Chance Act prerelease placement, and RDAP eligibility in plain language.

One guided federal-custody review

See the score, the possible overrides, and the time-related programs separately.

The tool is designed for people awaiting sentencing, recently sentenced, or already in BOP custody. It explains why a low numerical score does not guarantee camp placement and why eligibility for a program does not always guarantee that its maximum benefit will be applied.

01

Classification

Security points, offense severity, Public Safety Factors, custody level, and placement considerations.

02

First Step Act

Eligibility, earning rate, estimated credits, risk requirements, and when credits may be applied.

03

Second Chance Act

Potential RRC and home-confinement windows, with clear explanation of BOP discretion.

04

RDAP

Treatment eligibility and the separate rules governing a possible early-release reduction.

Guided ten-step estimator

Build the BOP estimate.

Use the person’s PSR, Judgment, criminal-history information, and custody records when available. You may still proceed with incomplete information; uncertain items will be identified for verification.

If the estimator does not display properly on your device, open the full-screen version.

Understand the result

Related decisions are not the same decision.

The report separates the raw security score from Public Safety Factors and discretionary placement issues. It also keeps sentence credits, prerelease placement, and RDAP benefits distinct so visitors do not accidentally add overlapping estimates together.

Classification is not a facility guarantee.

Medical needs, programming, bed space, release residence, judicial recommendations, separation concerns, and other BOP considerations can affect designation.

Credits must be earned and may have application requirements.

First Step Act participation, PATTERN status, statutory exclusions, immigration status, disciplinary history, and other rules can affect the result.

Community placement is not extra sentence credit.

Second Chance Act RRC or home confinement changes where part of the sentence may be served; it does not erase an additional block of imprisonment.

RDAP admission and early release are separate.

A person may qualify for treatment but remain ineligible for the sentence reduction, and the BOP determines the actual reduction.
